Preparing and submitting a manuscript

Start here for scope, manuscript preparation, submission, fees, and author services.

1. What types of manuscripts does JHNR publish?

JHNR publishes original research articles, review articles, and case studies in English. Authors should confirm that the manuscript type and topic match the journal's current Focus and Scope before submission.

2. What subject areas are within the journal's scope?

The journal covers health and medical sciences, public health, nutrition, food science and technology, midwifery and women's health, nursing, pharmacy, and related interdisciplinary work. Suitability is assessed by the editorial team.

3. How do I submit a manuscript?

Create an account or sign in to the official JHNR OJS website, then complete the online submission steps. Manuscripts should be submitted only through the official system, not through third-party agencies. Log in or register here.

4. Which file and format requirements apply?

The preferred manuscript format is Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx). Use the current journal template, follow the stylistic and reference requirements, include reference URLs where available, and complete every item in the Submission Preparation Checklist.

5. May I submit a manuscript that is under review elsewhere?

No. A submission must not have been previously published or be under consideration by another journal. If related material requires explanation, provide it transparently in the Comments to the Editor and follow the journal's editorial policies.

6. Must authors suggest potential reviewers?

Yes. The current submission checklist asks authors to suggest at least two potential reviewers, including their names, affiliations, and email addresses, in the Comments to the Editor field. Suggestions do not guarantee that the nominated reviewers will be invited.

7. Is submission free, and when is the APC charged?

Submission is free (Rp 0). An APC is billed only after the manuscript has been formally accepted following the journal's editorial and peer-review process. If the manuscript is rejected, the author pays nothing. The current APC amount should be confirmed with the editorial office. Payment does not influence peer review and does not guarantee acceptance.

8. Is an APC waiver available?

JHNR's publisher offers partial waivers of up to 25%, assessed case by case. Eligible authors should apply during initial submission or, at the latest, the first revision. A signed request letter and a declaration of no external funding should be sent to editormpci@gmail.com. Requests made after acceptance are not considered. Read the Waiver Policy.

9. How can I check the status of my manuscript?

Sign in to the official OJS account used for submission and open the submission record. Editorial requests and decisions are communicated through the system and the registered email address. Contact the journal only when clarification is needed, and include the manuscript ID.

10. How long does the editorial process take?

The journal publishes indicative processing times, including an average submission-to-decision period of approximately 3–5 weeks. This is an estimate, not a guarantee. Timing may vary with scope checks, reviewer availability, revision rounds, ethics queries, and the completeness of the author's response.

02   Review & research ethics
How manuscripts are evaluated

Editorial decisions are based on journal fit, scholarly quality, peer review, and compliance with publication and research ethics.

11. What peer-review model does JHNR use?

JHNR uses double-blind peer review: authors and reviewers do not know one another's identities during the review process. Manuscripts first undergo an editorial assessment for format, scope, and basic requirements. Submissions selected for external review are normally evaluated by at least two experts, while the editor makes the final decision. View the Review Procedure.

12. Are submissions screened for plagiarism?

Yes. Submitted manuscripts may be screened using Turnitin before external review. Authors must cite sources accurately, identify quoted or reused material, avoid unattributed paraphrasing, and disclose related publications. Similarity reports are interpreted editorially rather than treated as a substitute for expert judgment.

13. What is required for human or animal studies?

For human studies, state the approving ethics committee, approval information, and informed-consent process. For animal studies, state approval from the responsible institutional or national authority and provide the approval or ethics number where available. The work must follow applicable ethical standards. Read the Human and Animal Studies Policy.

14. Must conflicts of interest be disclosed?

Yes. Authors should disclose financial, professional, personal, or other interests that could reasonably be perceived to influence the work. Reviewers and editors must also disclose relevant conflicts and should decline or recuse themselves when impartial evaluation may be affected.

15. Is a data availability statement required?

Yes. Authors should explain where and under what conditions the supporting data can be accessed. Deposit in an appropriate public repository is encouraged. Ethical, legal, privacy, or contractual restrictions should be stated and justified. View the Data Sharing Policy.

16. May authors use generative AI tools?

Responsible, supervised use is permitted for specified manuscript-preparation tasks, but AI must not replace the author's critical judgment or be listed as an author. Authors remain responsible for accuracy, originality, citations, and disclosure. AI-generated non-data artwork for a graphical abstract or cover may be used under the journal's conditions and must be declared. Generative AI must not be used to fabricate or manipulate research data or scientific evidence. Read the Gen AI Policy.

17. May reviewers use generative AI when reviewing?

No submitted manuscript, review report, or confidential editorial communication should be uploaded to a generative AI service. Reviewers are responsible for their own scientific evaluation and must protect confidentiality, provide constructive comments, and disclose any conflict of interest.

18. Does acceptance depend on payment?

No. Editorial assessment and peer review are completed independently of billing. The APC is requested only after an acceptance decision. JHNR does not offer acceptance in exchange for payment, and authors should use only the journal's official OJS and editorial contact channels.

03   Access & journal information
For authors, readers, and institutions

Essential information about access, licensing, publication frequency, discoverability, and contact details.

19. Is JHNR an open-access journal?

Yes. Published content is available online without subscription charges for readers or institutions. Authors retain copyright, and articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International license. Read the Open Access Policy.

20. How often is JHNR published?

JHNR publishes three issues each year, scheduled for April, August, and December. Publication scheduling for an accepted manuscript remains subject to completion of editorial production and the issue plan.

21. Where is JHNR accredited and discoverable?

JHNR is accredited SINTA 2 and lists Dimensions, EBSCO, GARUDA, and Google Scholar among its indexing or discovery services. The journal currently states that its Scopus application is under review by the Scopus Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB). Citation records in Scopus are not the same as journal indexing, so JHNR should not be described as Scopus-indexed unless Scopus formally confirms inclusion.

22. How can I contact the journal?

Email editormpci@gmail.com or contact the journal at +62 852-8294-5599. For a question about an existing submission, include the manuscript ID and use the email address registered in OJS. You may also consult the official Contact page.
