Key Interpretation

The increase in publication output was supported by a substantial manuscript submission volume and was not accompanied by a higher acceptance rate or an unusually shortened time to acceptance.

  • The OJS-reported acceptance rate decreased from 48% in 2025 to 46% in 2026 YTD.
  • The rejection rate increased from 52% to 54%.
  • The desk-rejection rate increased from 44% to 52%, indicating stronger initial screening.
  • Time from submission to acceptance remained stable at approximately 79–81 days.
Effective from August 2025

Publication Capacity Standard

To manage current and future publication volume responsibly, JHNR introduced a standard planning capacity of approximately 50 articles per regular issue, effective from August 2025.

This figure is an editorial and production planning standard, not an acceptance quota or a guarantee of publication. Only manuscripts that successfully complete editorial screening, independent peer review, revision, and final quality control may be scheduled for publication. Minor variations between issues may occur because of final production scheduling, article withdrawal, corrections, or the transfer of accepted manuscripts between issues.

Editorial Capacity and Quality Safeguards

JHNR has expanded its editorial structure to 15 editors and 23 core reviewers. Manuscripts remain subject to administrative and scope screening, template-compliance checks, initial scientific and ethics assessment, anonymization by the editorial team, double-blind external peer review, revision assessment, copyediting, proofreading, reference checking, metadata verification, and final author approval. Reviewers are normally given approximately 30 days to complete their evaluations.

Data Notes

  1. The 2025 figures cover 1 January–31 December 2025.
  2. The 2026 figures cover 1 January–19 August 2026 and must not be interpreted as final full-year statistics.
  3. Accepted, declined, and published counts are OJS events recorded within each calendar period and may not refer to the same submission cohort.
  4. Acceptance, rejection, desk-rejection, and after-review rejection rates reproduce the values displayed by OJS.
  5. The first editorial decision represents initial screening and must not be interpreted as completion of peer review.
